In Moldova keeping warm in the winter is not just for comfort - it is for survival! During the winter months the temperatures frequently plunge below minus 20 degrees Celcius. It is often difficult to imagine how people survive in such conditions in poorly insulated and inadequately heated homes. Each year CMIAID buys firewood for distribution to the most needy families in the villages. The firewood is purchased by the truckload and delivered to the CMIAID base where it is cut into pieces and split. CMIAID workers then distribute firewood to the needy.
